THE UNDERGRADUATE THEATRE ASSOCIATION
OUR LEADERSHIP
The Undergraduate Theatre Association was founded in 2007 to serve undergraduate students within the University of Wisconsin, Madison. We are open to all undergraduate students of all majors, not restricting the organization to those studying theatre. We mount main stage productions and provide workshops and educational opportunities to our members. In the Undergraduate Theatre Association, we want to foster a love of theatre, host a welcoming environment to all, and create friendships that will last far beyond the final curtain. For more information, fill out the contact sheet at the bottom of this page to be added to our mailing list. Interested in joining? Email one of us at our listed address.

Summer Kleppek
Summer Kleppek is a Third Year student studying Music Education and Theatre and Drama, with a focus on directing and acting. She thinks that theatre is amazing because it is the most human of all of the art forms and because of this, she is extremely passionate about using it as an educational tool. In college, she has been involved in productions though UTA and also the University Theatre and IMT. Outside of theatre, she loves singing in her a cappella group, Under A-Rest and really loves to go thrift shopping! This year she will be running the social media for UTA and she absolutely cannot wait to meet all of the new students who are excited about theatre!
Heron Splinter
Heron is the name of a kind of bird, but also of this theatre student and professional. Heron is a Theatre and Drama major and enjoys studying sound design, as well as film. Heron's most recent sound design credit was for working on UW T&D's Clybourne Park. Heron also does technical sound work at the Wisconsin Union Theater, where he is gainfully employed as a stagehand. With connections and experience with UW Art and Theatre experts and spaces across the university, Heron is enthused to work for UTA and to make some great theatre!
Zoe W. McCartney
Zoe W. McCartney is lighting focused theatre student with an eye toward directing and/or just getting a job that pays any amount of money. She has been working with lighting since her jr year of high school and also works as a light and sound tech at the terrace.
She has participated in three UTA shows and designed (shocker) the lighting for one of them, Chekhov’s Shorts her freshman year. Special skills include: loving being on the UTA board, the ability to press a Go button like nobody’s business, and consistently missing her tiny, tiny pup.
Juli Gessner
Juli Gessner is a third-year studying Theatre & Drama along with Studio Art and Game Design. While at UW-Madison, they’ve been involved in UTA’s Chekhov’s Shorts (Stage Manager), the Threads: Point of Muse Fashion Show (Stage Manager) for the School of Human Ecology, and University Theatre’s Julius Caesar (Assistant Stage Manager). They have experience in project management, scenic painting, and many other forms of visual art. They may also secretly be a magpie in disguise.
